Overseas Chinese News, founded in June, 1956, is a weekly newspaper serving overseas Chinese in more than 80 countries, and residents of Hong Kong, Macao,Taiwan and south Fujian province.
Organized by the Xiamen People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and under the leadership of the Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Xiamen Municipal Government, the newspaper provides information and services for overseas Chinese.
As Fujian province’s first private newspaper after the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949, the monthly newspaper had an initial circulation of 2,500, distributed to many countries such as Indonesia, Myanmar, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Cambodia.
For more than half a century, the newspaper has portrayed the scenes and culture, the anecdotes and living conditions, of overseas Chinese.
Since the reform and opening up, the newspaper has played important roles in the investment and business lives of overseas Chinese, public welfare projects, foreign investment promotion and the enlargement of Chinese enterprises’ marketing channels.
Readers of the Overseas Chinese News include overseas Chinese and relevant organizations, Chinese-funded enterprises, overseas Chinese and their relatives living in Fujian province, honorary citizens in Xiamen, overseas students, Chinese-funded businessmen and employees, government officials, hotels, Import & export trading companies and readers who have an interest in life overseas.
The 15th Xiamen International Marathon, an IAAF Gold Label road race event, held by the Fujian province city since 2003 will run on Jan 2, 2017.
