The city of Trier in Germany initiated friendly exchanges with Xiamen, in East China’s Fujian province in 2005. The two officially established sister-city relationships on November 11, 2010.
Trier is located in the west of Germany inRheiland-Pfalz, adjacent to Belgium, Luxembourg and France.It covers an area of 19,849 square kilometers,taking up 5.6 percent of the whole country.
The city has a population of over100,000 and was founded in 16th century. It is famous for being the hometown of the great revolutionary master, Carl Marx. Trier is home to UNESCO world cultural heritage items.
Due to its proximity to numerous European countries, the city has experienced rapid economic growth. Its main industries include steel-making and rubber processing.
The 15th Xiamen International Marathon, an IAAF Gold Label road race event, held by the Fujian province city since 2003 will run on Jan 2, 2017.
The Jimei Arles International Photography Festival will return to the city of Xiamen for the second year on Nov 20
