The Thai Consulate General in Xiamen was officially founded in September 2005 and was intially named Thai Consulate Office in Xiamen. Then it was upgraded to the consulate general in May 2006. The first consul general was Mr Wisanu Berananda and the incumbent is Pachuen Phornmongkol. The consulate is in charge of all consul works in the provinces of Fujian and Jiangxi.
The consulate has played important roles in the exchanges and cooperation between Xiamen city and Thailand, and enabled several visits of Thailand’s royal family members to Xiamen. They facilitated mutual cooperation and development for the economy, trade, culture, education and tourism.
By the end of 2011, the consulate had contributed to a total of 32 investment projects, amounting to $74.15 million. The volume of mutual trade in 2011 reached $1.39 billion, an increase of 30.65 percent compared with the same period of 2010.

Xiamen recently donated 105 books to its sister city in the Philippines, Cebu, to celebrate Cebu-Xiamen Friends Day which falls on Oct 26.
Elod Tasnady, consulate general of Hungary in Shanghai, visited Xiamen, Fujian province from Sept 25 to 26 to seek business cooperation with the Chinese city.
