The Consulate General of the Republic of the Philippines in Xiamen was founded in January 1995.
The first consul general was Mr. Benito B Valeriano, and the present one is Mr. Adelio Angelito S. Cruz. In May 1997, the consulate general was increased to take charge of matters concerning Fujian and Jiangxi province.
The consulate has been making efforts in promoting friendship and cooperation between Xiamen and the Philippines since 1995, including the arrangement of the Philippines leaders’ visits in Xiamen, and providing services for Chinese Filipinos to learn Chinese culture in Xiamen.
By the end of 2011, the Philippines had invested in 189 projects in Xiamen, accounting for $383 million in foreign investment. The total volume of trade reached $1.069 billion in 2011, an increase of 77.64 percent compared with the same period of 2010.

Xiamen recently donated 105 books to its sister city in the Philippines, Cebu, to celebrate Cebu-Xiamen Friends Day which falls on Oct 26.
Elod Tasnady, consulate general of Hungary in Shanghai, visited Xiamen, Fujian province from Sept 25 to 26 to seek business cooperation with the Chinese city.
