The mayor of Mokpo in South Korea led a delegation to Xiamen, Fujian province from Dec 24 to 27, seeking to boost the two cities' cooperation in economy, trade and tourism.

The mayor chose Xiamen as his first foreign visit since assuming the post in July 2018.

Han Jingyi, deputy mayor of Xiamen, witnessed the signing of a memorandum on strengthening the two cities' economic, trade and tourism cooperation on Dec 24.

Han briefed the visitors on Xiamen's latest economic and social development conditions including its economic, trade and tourism exchanges with Mokpo after the signing ceremony.

He said that Xiamen and Mokpo have maintained close exchanges in economic activity, trade, education, culture and sports since they established sister-city relations in 2007.

The South Korean mayor spoke highly of the achievements Xiamen has made since China's reform and opening-up four decades ago, noting that his government has a lot to learn from the Chinese city's experience in developing a civic economy and a tourism industry.

He hoped that entrepreneurs from both cities will seek further cooperation in the near future.

During the three-day visit to Xiamen, the delegation also held a conference promoting sightseeing in Mokpo and put on a Mokpo Import Goods Festival to advertise the city's beautiful scenery and high quality products.
